Many of us became practitioners because we wanted to support people who struggle the way we once did. There is nothing wrong with that motivation, but working in a community you belong to can be tricky. In this SACAP webinar, Rahim explores cultural safety and countertransference for practitioners working within LGBTQIA+ and other communities of belonging.
Shared identity can create a sense of safety and understanding, and it can also produce particular therapeutic challenges. Through interactive practitioner case studies, the session looks at common countertransference dynamics, including over-identification, fear of disclosure and burnout, and offers supervision strategies for processing these reactions ethically and effectively.
