Course 1 · Foundations · 36 hours
Course 1: Foundational Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Skills for Social Work
This first course develops the shared assessment, formulation and intervention skills used across cognitive behavioural therapies. Learners practise collaborative assessment, contextualized formulation, behavioural and cognitive procedures, Socratic dialogue, behavioural experiments and maintenance planning.
The course treats material conditions, structural harm and cultural meaning as part of the formulation rather than as background. A recurring discipline runs through every module: an accurate appraisal of danger, discrimination or constraint is not a cognitive distortion, and restructuring it is not therapy.

Course 2: Disorder-Specific and Adapted Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Practice
This second course applies the foundational skills to specific presentations and to adapted CBT approaches. Learners select among transdiagnostic, modular and disorder-specific models, match interventions to identified maintaining processes, and determine when safety, medical, scope or coordination action is required.
Each module works from a fictional case and asks the same sequence: select the model, formulate process and context, match the intervention, check safety and scope, then monitor and revise. Modules are numbered 13 to 24 in continuity with Course 1.
