Anti-Oppressive Psychodynamic Practice
Signature Clinical Certificate · 60 hours
Certificate in Anti-Oppressive Psychodynamic Perspectives for Social Work Practice
This certificate works at the intersection of anti-oppressive practice and psychodynamic theory. Learners engage contemporary psychoanalytic concepts — attachment, projection, enactment, and the unconscious life of institutions — and examine how each operates under conditions of marginalization rather than in the abstract.
The programme treats the clinical dyad as a site where power, history and positionality are already present. Modules address the diagnostic imagination, internalized oppression, intersectional dynamics, boundary complexity, organizational shadow, embodied knowing, and the politics of clinical practice, closing with case-based synthesis.
Content is grounded in ethical principle throughout and oriented to client outcomes: emotional regulation, identity integration and relational repair.

Two-part sequence
Psychodynamic Practice with LGBTQ+ Clients
Take Part I first. Part II assumes its concepts and builds on them.
Part I · Clinical Foundations · 50 hours
Certificate in Psychodynamic Concepts with LGBTQ+ Clients and Communities: Clinical Foundations
This certificate builds the psychodynamic foundations for clinical work with LGBTQ+ clients and communities. Learners work with the unconscious, transference and countertransference, defences, attachment and mentalization, and use them to formulate rather than to classify.
Identity development, family and generational dynamics, sexuality and intimacy, and the cultural and political context of queer and trans lives are treated as clinical material in their own right. Minority stress, heterosexism, cissexism and racism are formulated as conditions the client is living in, not as distortions to be corrected.
The certificate closes with integration and a capstone case that is deliberately left open.

Part II · Advanced Clinical Practice · 60 hours · requires Part I
Certificate in Psychodynamic Concepts with LGBTQ+ Clients and Communities: Advanced Clinical Practice
This advanced certificate extends psychodynamic practice with LGBTQ+ clients into trauma and dissociation, intimacy and fantasy, group and relational work, intersectionality, the therapist's own vulnerabilities, endings, and leadership.
Each module closes with a case integration unit rather than a per-lesson case throughline, requiring learners to hold several strands at once. Where a lesson's material does not fit a case, that is stated rather than forced.
The certificate treats the therapist's position — fatigue, identification, shame, erotic countertransference, disclosure — as clinical material requiring the same rigour as the client's.
