The Guide (2010)
The Guide is a multilingual print and online resource co-authored by Toronto-based therapist, social worker, and educator Rahim Thawer.
The publication was created to help members of the LGBTQ+ newcomer and immigrant communities navigate immigration stress, health systems, and new environments.
It was co-produced through a collaboration between seven Toronto community health agencies, including the Black Coalition for AIDS Prevention (Black CAP), alongside several other partner groups:
ASAAP (Alliance for South Asian AIDS Prevention)
APAA (African and Caribbean People in Action)
ACAS (Asian Community AIDS Services)
Regent Park CHC (Community Health Centre)
Core Focus Areas of the Guide
Psychosocial Support: Mitigating vulnerabilities associated with settlement stress.
Sexual Health & Disclosure: Strategies for managing stigma, navigating relationships, and HIV disclosure.
Harm Reduction: Resources and education regarding substance use.
